Kelly Bowman Greenwood

Kelly in the Lion Grove garden.

Kelly poses for the DVD cover shot in a crabapple blossom-shaped doorway. This photo was taken in the Lion Grove garden, a UNESCO world heritage site. The original garden was built by monks 1000 years ago.

Kelly’s passion is designing authentic California homes, inside and out. Her work has been featured in the book Backyards: A Sunset Design Guide. She has appeared as a guest designer on HGTV’s Landscape Smart and her own home was featured in the first season of “Small Spaces, Big Style.”

She is a member of the Association of Professional Landscape Designers and the American Society of Landscape Architects. She is a graduate of the UC Berkeley Extension Landscape Architecture program as well as her beloved alma mater, Sweet Briar College.

She had a transformative adventure through China in 2013, exploring ancient gardens in Suzhou with a documentary film crew! You can read about that here. The documentary is airing now on local PBS stations. The trip led to a radical rethink of her perspective on designing with plants endemic to California, and now she looks to feature several of her gardens on the CNPS “Going Native Garden Tour” each year.

She occasionally blogs about her own personal adventures transforming an acre of neglected gardens in the Sweet Hollow Almanac, and spends way too much time “finding design inspiration” on Pinterest.
