Now is the time to start pruning your roses and fruit trees, if you haven’t already! If you’re maintaining your garden yourself, try to get your pruning done by President’s Day weekend. If your garden is maintained by a professional and your roses or fruit trees haven’t been pruned yet, ask the foreman about their schedule and whether your maintenance plan includes the necessary pruning time.
If you have japanese maples, now is the time to complete any aesthetic pruning, before they begin to leaf out. You will begin to notice buds and possibly a few early flowers on your camellias if you have them. For more inspiration on spring color for California gardens, see my post at Sweet Hollow Almanac.
